Using your telephone
Your Extension Number
Every bedroom at Sydney University Village is equipped with a telephone that can connect you to anyone in the village or on the university telephone network simply by dialling the five digit extension number printed on the phone handset.
Your Phone Number
You can receive calls from outside of the village environment directly into your room. Your phone number for someone calling you from outside the University and Village environment is 903 followed by your extension number.
For example the main Village number 90364000, with 64000 being the extension number
Voicemail
You also have a voicemail facility on your phone. A copy of voicemail setup and use instructions is available from the Village Admin office.
Making Outside Calls
For your own security we have implemented a system that will ensure that calls you make are only charged to you and calls made by others are charged to them. This is done with the use of a personal PIN.
To maintain the integrity of the system do not give out your PIN number to anyone, regardless of how close a friend they might be. Remember you are responsible for any calls made using your PIN.
With your PIN, you can make a call from almost any phone in the Village. The call will still be charged to your account regardless of whether or not you are using your phone in your room.
To be able to make a call on the phones you must have credit available. You initially have a $20 credit limit. Once this limit has been reached you will need to recharge it. Soon you will be able to do this from your room over the Intranet, but in the meantime it can be done in amounts of no less than $20 through the admin office by Credit Card, Eftpos or Cash.
Dialling an Outside Call with your PIN
To make a call all you have do is dial the following:
*72*_ _ _ _ _ _ # 0 (followed by the number you want to contact)
The _ _ _ _ _ _ represents your personal PIN number.
For example, if your pin number was 123456, and the number called is 0398765432 :
you would dial
*72*123456 # 0 0398765432.
Call Charges
A local call (a call within the local metropolitan area) will cost a flat rate of 28 cents (inc GST).
STD and ISD calls are charged on a timed basis. Rates vary depending on time of day and destinations of calls. To get an accurate estimate of the call cost we suggest that when you make your first call you check with us to see exactly what it cost.
Information about calls will not be given out over the phone, but in the future you will be able to view account information over the web.
If you have any concerns or questions about phone calls please do not hesitate to contact the office.
